DIY Shows/Listening Room
What Shows Do We Book?
Our acoustic/songwriter shows bring an intimate coffeehouse vibe where every lyric feels like a conversation and every chord crosses the room like a heartbeat. Soft, warm lighting and mismatched chairs create a cozy, inviting space where artists strip back production to reveal raw stories and honest emotion. Whether you come to listen, to reflect, or to share, the evenings are crafted to hold vulnerability with care—encouraging connection, catharsis, and quiet celebration of creative resilience. Expect thoughtful songcraft, gentle audience interaction, and a supportive atmosphere that mirrors our approach to healing through art.
Our exclusive partner showcases offer a supportive, low-stakes stage where creators test fresh material before an audience of fellow partners and devoted fans—blending creative risk-taking with constructive feedback from people who care. These invite-only events foster collaboration and experimentation: performers try new pieces, musicians debut rough cuts, and storytellers workshop drafts while receiving real-time responses that sharpen their work. The atmosphere is nurturing yet electric, prioritizing emotional safety and professional growth so artists can iterate confidently. For partners, it’s a reliable space to refine craft, deepen community ties, and give their fan base an insider experience that feels both intimate and celebratory.
Our poetry and short story shows create intimate, electric spaces where vulnerability meets craft—each reading blends spoken-word pulse with narrative detail to hold trauma, joy, and transformation side by side. We curate diverse voices: survivors, emerging writers, and seasoned storytellers who use metaphor, rhythm, and image to translate what words alone often can’t. Every show is designed as a communal ritual: gentle prompts for listening, opportunities for audience writing, and grounding practices before and after performances so people leave seen and steadied. The result is art that heals and provokes—stories that stay with you, lines that you carry like small, luminous tools for living.
How to Book the Listening Room
-
Like all of our services we offer, our Listening Room is open to book for all of our partners (adolescent and professional creative). To become a partner, e-mail us at hello@makerstorycreative.org or call 616-287-2503.
-
Our partners will be given a link to see what dates are available to be booked.
-
The next step is to e-mail us at hello@makerstorycreative.org to make sure no one else is in the process of booking the space at that time/date (preventing double-booking).
-
E-mail us at hello@makerstorycreative.org with the names and short bio of the musicians/artists, target demographic, and what you will need (mics, chords, etc.).
-
We will send an email to our partners and sponsors letting them know about the show, but any other marketing will be on you.
-
We prefer if any musician/artist show up an hour before the doors to get everything set up and make sure it all will work.
